During 2007 the owners of The Ranch, Nols van Heerden, and his wife, Lorette, bought an old house which belonged to Frikkie Labuschagne, and decided to create a facility to be enjoyed by local people and visitors to our picturesque town.
At that time the owners had their own local Butchery in town and was confident that a restaurant would complement their existing businesses. During June 2008 the restaurant opened its doors under the name of The Butcher’s Diner in Maclear and was managed as a family business assisted by their two daughters, Simoné and Alicia. The Butchery supplied The Butchers Diner with meat and some other requirements.
The owners found it extremely difficult to run two businesses simultaneously and tried to sell The Butcher’s Diner on a few occasions.
Improvements were made to the building and surrounding area and during 2016 they again took control of The Butcher’s Diner, and then decided to recreate and renew the business image and name.
During August 2016 the revamped business opened under the name of The Ranch. Due to a demand for upmarket accommodation and to offer an additional service to its customers and the public in general the accommodation side was developed. Four double rooms and one family room were added to the facilities and came into operation in October 2017.
The Restaurant and B&B are now running successfully under the close supervision of all family members.
The staff that is employed by the restaurant are fully capable and greatly loved by the family and community.
With loyal customers travelling from near and far, The Ranch is a local gem and absolute favorite.
